Some Notes:
- We are creating a backlog by tracking your open questions. You can help us to expand the list by leaving your questions in this post as comments or post it on the “main page” as usual – thank you for your support!
- Some of you have reported vehicle and app related bugs to us. Rest assured, we take this seriously and forward them to our experts
- Not every question is “Yes or No”, so sometimes we need some time to ask our internal colleagues to find the right answer
- Some aspects of your car and the We Connect ID. app differ from country to country – so in some cases we must ask you to get in contact with your market
- The We Connect ID. app will get more and more features over time!
- There is no difference between the model years 2020 and 2021
- Sometimes your answers are so good that we couldn't have written it better ourselves [Blockierte Grafik: https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/tce/1/18/1f642.png]
- For most of the minor bugs there is a simple workaround until the first update: restart the infotainment system or leave the ID.3 and leave it locked for roughly 15 minutes
- You may find these “Tips & Tricks” in other forums; please note that only the version that can be found in this Facebook group is valid
Troubleshooting
1. What to do if the infotainment system freezes?
In the ICAS-3 (central infotainment computer) there are software mechanisms that restart the system in the event of a "broken" application. If this restart mechanism does not work, there is the possibility of restarting the infotainment system by holding the power on / off button on the touch slider of the center display for 15 seconds. Please do not restart the system while driving, but in a safe environment. Please note that the vehicles may differ in different regions.

2. What to do if I get error messages on the display (range cannot be displayed, error with the sensor etc.)?
If this problem only occurs occasionally, we recommend proceeding as follows:
Parking and locking of the vehicle for approx. 10 minutes (or overnight). Unlocking the vehicle and restarting the infotainment system after that time, the usual data should be displayed again.
If the problem is still not solved or occurs very often, please contact your dealer.
3. What to do if I am not able to lock or unlock the vehicle?
There is probability that the vehicle is not able to recognize the key anymore. In order to solve this, take the spare key out of the vehicle key. Open your ID.3 using the spare key. Put your vehicle key into the cup holder compartment and wait for about half a minute. The vehicle should identify your vehicle key.
Instruction to take the spare key out of the vehicle key:
1. Press the release button briefly. The keyring folds open.
2. Press the release button and pull the spare key out in the direction of the arrow.
3. Spare key.

4. What to do if the rear-view camera does not work properly?
If this problem only occurs occasionally, we recommend proceeding as follows:
Parking and locking of the vehicle for approx. 10 minutes (or overnight). Unlocking the vehicle and restarting the infotainment system after that time, the rear-view camera should work properly.
If the problem is still not solved or occurs very often, please contact your dealer.
5. How can a locked charging connector be released?
Either via the unlock button on the key (double-press) or inside the vehicle on the driver door panel.
More information can be found in the owner´s manual under chapter "Charging the high-voltage battery".

1. Why does the HMI (Infotainment) “ask” me if I want to drive in online or offline mode?
It's a mandatory feature by European data privacy law - in the future you can select different user profiles and pre-select to be always on.
2. After how many kilometers is a service due?
The maintenance cycle for the ID.3 is 2 years. There is no mileage limit for Europe.
NEW
3. What is the so called “Vehicle Wallet”?
The “Vehicle Wallet” is another term for the “Owner´s Manual” which can be found in the glove compartment of the vehicle.
NEW
4. How can I view the software version of my infotainment system?
You can information about your system and navigation database in the center display under “Settings -> System information”.
NEW
5. Why doesn´t the outside mirror lower automatically although I am in reverse?
To lower the outside mirrors, it is important that the rotary switch for mirror adjustment is set to "R". Note that automatic lowering of the outside mirror is not available in all versions of the ID.3 1st.
6. Does the ID.3 1st have a tow bar?
No, but a preparation for a bicycle carrier can be retrofitted. The retrofit option will be available for all ID.3 versions, including ID.3 1st, except the ones with the 77 kWh battery. Additional information on availability will be added soon. Only bicycle carriers that have been approved by Volkswagen for your vehicle must be used.
Please note that if it is a leased vehicle, the retrofitting must be agreed with your lessor.
NEW
7. Is it possible to retrofit wireless charging in vehicles without this functionality?
Wireless charging is not offered as a retrofit by Volkswagen.
NEW
8. Is it possible to switch on the interior lighting when the vehicle is stationary?
If the ignition is switched off, the car takes power from all the interior lighting after 30 seconds. The ignition is switched off when the electronic parking brake “P” is engaged, and the seat belt is released. There are two options to keep the lights on anyway:
1. Remain fastened when the electronic parking brake “P” is engaged
2. Switch on the ignition again manually using the ignition starter button behind the steering wheel
9. Can my ID.3 create a Wi-Fi hotspot with its built-in SIM-Card (eSIM)?
This functionality will be available after the update.
10. Which provider is the eSIM in the car actually using?
The eSIM is working with several providers depending on your location to make sure you get the best coverage all over Europe.
11. Recuperation sometimes feels less effective - What’s the idea behind the ID.3’s recuperation concept?
We opted for a more comfortable recuperation mode, as the feeling of fully electric driving is new to many of our customers. The most efficient way to move an electric car is in "sailing mode", which is automatically activated in the ID.3 in gear “D”. On top, the ID.3 has installed various systems that provide additional recuperation depending on the driving situation.
12. Drum brakes? Really?
The ID.3 has disk brakes on the front axle and drum brakes at the rear axle. E-vehicles have the advantage of covering most of the braking force by recuperation (engine brake). On the one hand, the vehicle will reduce speed while recuperating and on the other hand, energy will be gained for charging the battery. In addition, the drum brakes benefit from better protection against corrosion (closed system) and from the reduction of particulate pollution, since the brake dust does not escape.
13. What are the system boundaries for the ACC?
The partially optional driver assistance systems in the MEB support the driver within defined system boundaries. The adaptive cruise control (ACC) covers the maximum speed of the MEB and can automatically adapt the speed to recognised speed limits and the route (e.g. curves). Bad weather and/or dirt can influence, however, the sensor view. As with all assistance systems according to SAE level 2, it is the driver's responsibility to monitor the traffic and to intervene at any time by taking corrective actions, if necessary. Speed and driving style should therefore always be adapted to the sight, weather as well as road surface conditions and to the traffic.
NEW
14. What is the effect of setting the chassis to "Sport" mode?
The adjustment controls the electronic differential lock. Minor braking inventions performed on individual wheels have a considerable impact on the self-steering effect of the running gear. The driving and steering performance becomes significantly more precise and stable.
NEW
15. Why does entering postal codes in the navigation system sometimes not deliver the desired results?
The direct input of Extended Postal Codes is only possible within a certain radius. If the direct input of Extended Postal Codes is not delivering desired results, please enter the corresponding city in your search query. The same applies to the input of street names and house numbers.
NEW
16. How is the navigation database in the vehicle updated?
This process takes place automatically. It is important that the vehicle is in online mode. Updating map material is free of charge for you.
17. Why is a coolant circuit required?
The coolant circuit is needed, since there are various temperature-developing components in the vehicle, for instance, due to higher stress or warmer regions, that have to be cooled for reasons of lifespan. One of these components is the battery.
18. Is it possible to connect external data storage devices to my ID.3 1st?
Yes! Please note, depending on the Infotainment system used, external hard disks with a capacity greater than 32 GB sometimes need to be reformatted for the FAT32 file system.
Nice to know: If more than 100,000 titles are provided to ICAS, only the first 100,000 titles will be read and made available, which will take a correspondingly long time. This applies to all media sources together! So if several USB devices are connected, a total of 100,000 will be displayed, no matter which source they are on.
